we learned about Zebrafish and how they have 70% of our DNA they use zebrafish for testing sometimes to see if they can heal humans because they have 70% of our genes so they use them to test if something can cure the human. and they have different stripes and they grow really really fast and there eggs are transparent too. They eat
zooplankton, phytoplankton, insects insect larvae worms.
Kia ora Lennox, I really liked your WONDERINGS question asking about why scientists don't use monkeys for testing instead of zebrafish as they have 90% DNA in common with humans. Zebrafish do grow really fast and are easy to keep in laboratories for scientists to use for their testing. Also because of their transparent eggs, the body systems of a zebrafish, which are very similar to humans, are very easy for scientists to observe and monitor.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to Week 5 when we are learning about the octopus and other cephalopods!
