Chesterfield Skinks Report

 


Common name  Chesterfield Skinks

Scientific Name Oligosoma salmon



Status: e.g at risk of extinction:they have a possible chance of living

because there may be less than 200 but there are most likely more than 100

so when they breed obviously more of their kind will be born and as long as no

predators get to them they should be fine because there small and hard to find.


Physical description:A Chesterfield skinks is a small lizard and has a very long tail

there like little snakes with legs they have a bit pattern on them as well most of

them look different to each other by that i mean they have different colours to each other

and they can all blend in with their surroundings

So it makes it harder for predator’s to find them the other reason

being that they are also 56 different species and they live in different areas.

Habitat (Location):west coast, Auckland New Zealand



Diet: it eats a small range of bugs or fruits like spiders, millipedes, crickets, termites, grasshoppers,

caterpillars, beetles, and beetle larvae. They may also consume snails, as well as small vertebrates

including frogs, smaller lizards, and newborn mice,slugs, cockroaches and Most skinks are active

during the day and prefer hanging out on the ground rather than climbing trees.



Reproduction cycle: Skinks give birth to live babies instead of eggs and they also give

birth from 3-4 babies every 2 years


Reasons for species are endangered: habitat loss,predators eating them, and human impact


Conservation measures (what is being done to protect this species):an intensive

and bait network within the fence will protect skinks from the occasional predator incursion.  


Future outlook:they may not go extinct for a while as long as two things happen.

They find more places to hide and reducing numbers of predatory mammals

then the chesterfield skinks should not go extinct for a while.





Fun Facts (Maximum of 3)Skinks live for 2-3 years, Skinks are known as a cryptic species,

There are 56 different species of skinks.


Task discription: Room 2 literacy have been learning about the 10 most endangered animals in New Zealand

and we had to wright a report on them and i picked the chesterfield skink.

Yr 7/8 captains Highlights

10 things the captains said were there highlights or experience 
  • Sione: the camp was good because we could see what were capable of
  • Caleb: trying new things and they could possibly effect us in the future
  • Bradley highlight: being a prefect
  • Jezakaia: sleeping with his cabin because they were scared

Yr 8 Leadership camp

on Wednesday 5th of august the yr 8 went on camp. We went to Thames which was a 2 hour drive so it took a while a lot of people fell asleep on the bus but when we got there it was pretty cool then we had to get our bags out of the bus and put it in piles then line up in team lines then we got introduced to Zach and Phil. Phil was the owner of the camp and him and his team lived there and the cabins were put on 2 sides the boys side and the girls side. But our first activity was in the gymnasium and we did something called cross games each team went into a corner and we started first working on our chants then we got into activity i forgot which order they went in but i remember one game each team had to go to a line and lay down next to each other first facing opposite ways and one person layed down on the matt and the people laying down had to pull the other person to the end and the first team there won after that we did it again but instead we had to go there and back it was fun but one team got stuck far behind and then every team participated in helping and we also did an activity were we lined up in three lines the lightest people in the middle and 2 strong and fast people on both side then we had to jump on this thin matt and the people on te side of us dragged us around 4 tires and then when we made it to the end we hopped off and let the next person go. camp was fun and very exciting.

Taha Challenge

this week for our Taha challenge we did Taha Tinana we had to see if we could hold a pose for one minute the pose was standing on one foot but the other foot had to sit on you knee then we had to balnce we did this twice first time we had our eyes closed and alot of people had trouble standing but the second time we did it with our eyes opened and it was alot esaier only a couple of people stumbled a little.

dont let go narrative

this week
 we had to wright a narrative about this picture and i havent gotten to the good parts yet
i hope you enjoy my story.

There was once a group of three kids who lived in the town ewufu it was a weird name and a small town so everyone knew each other. Any ways on with the story the three  boys would hang out together after and during school. They were the supposed nerds of the school they would get bullied but no matter what they would always stick together .Their names were Damien Hunter Reece and they built a tree fort in the middle of the woods. Damien got bored of only Reece Hunter so he said “we need a girl in the friend group”


Hunter responded “while no one wants to hang out with us so who do you have in mind”


Reece said “ OOOOOOO I THINK DAMIEN LIKES SOME ONE”


Damien responded “shut up”


Stuttering Hunter told them to stop, then Damien went to get some food and drinks from the shop so they could watch stranger things all night and Reece had a sugar rush and passed out, hunter stayed awake and watched movies Damien heard something outside, hunter had a butterfly knife and flipped it open in one swift motion Hunter jumped out of the tree house and screamed like a madman“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”. 

Jumping and turning to be aware of his surroundings Damien shook his head exhaling Damien jumped out and said to get the flashlight but hunter said “Why did you not get it” 


Damien didn't want to so he told Hunter to get it and hunter finally agreed and when he got it Damien screamed. Hunter turned the flashlight on and jumped out. He called for Damien but there was no response he heard something behind him he turned around “BOO”. 


Hunter jumped back in fear Damien laughing so hard he cried Damien fell back in laughter Hunter said “very funny” 


While brushing himself off but then they heard something Damien said “i know you got Reece to run around in the bushes” Damien looked in the tree house and saw Reece and he climbed up the ladder and locked the door the bushes had faster movement and hunter climbed the ladder and went on the roof of the tree house and entered the hatchet they made and then he slapped Damien. He forgot about the entry on the roof they stayed there till dawn they had 4 beds and even knew they were just a group of 3 there was a knock…. TO BE CONTINUED

the young detective

Task description
this week we wrote a narrative it was about a young detective looking for a key and he got it as a gift and he needs to find it and after we wrote our story we peer edited it on Thursday we shared our story with someone and they reviewed it and commented what was wrong.

It had been three days since it had gone missing. One minute he had held it in his hand, the next it had vanished. How could it just have disappeared? It had been right in front of his eyes!
He had been warned about what would happen if he lost it. His mission had been to guard the key with his life, ever since they visited him last summer.
Adam had always had a detective’s instinct. They had told him as much. He had been chosen because he had certain skills, and he would need them more than ever now.
Only one clue had seemingly been left, which was sat on the living room table.
Holding the magnifying glass up to his eye, Adam began to investigate… he found himself in his dad’s room searching up and down side to side but nothing. He checked the toilet he found some hand or foot prints he couldn't identify. But it wasn't eany normal prints. His dad had a vent above his cupboard in his bathroom. It was big. He had to analyse it very well. It had some hair and Adam left it as a clue and took the piece of hair. He investigated the library his dad was reading his favourite book in “are you ok you look like you lost something”
 adams dad said “have you seen anything weird around here” 
Adam asked dad he replied “no” 
Dad had to leave for shopping. Adam was alone, the clue on the table he left to investigate a little more he went into the kitchen and found nothing. The lights dimmed a little bit and the house shook a little and Adam was very suspicious. He went into the power room and took a flashlight. It was pitch black, silence dripping water, a power box buzzing and a big room. The power room had the power box in it, some pipes and a lot of boxes. Adam went into the middle of the room there was a opening in the roof a big one Adam decided to climb into it he was crawling through the vents coughing and going blind from all the dust from his every move he found his way out so he could get a mask. He climbed down the ladder and heard something in the mountain of boxes he grabbed his X Ray vision goggles and searched. He looked very cautiously. “Whos there”
“Your worst nightmare” 
A demonic voice said “I know what you're looking for and to find it you have to look in the right places in the right time or you will not earn what you desire”
Adam ran up the stairs and shut the door. He went into the vent in his dads room with a mask and a flashlight. He shut the vent behind him.
